I CANNOT figure out this French conjugation pattern?

Because in the first sentence, etre (sont) is the verb. echappees is the adjective. BUT in the second sentence, amusent is the verb. So both are actually conjugated in the third person plural.There is no adjective that would need ot agree with the sentence (and bien would be an adverb).
