Destruction of ancient monuments?

The Taliban's destruction of the Buddhas of Bamyan, the carpet bombing of Monte Cino in WWII, the German Army using 28 tons of dynamite to destroy the castle keep and four towers of Chateau de Coucy in 1917 are among the well-known, senseless acts of destruction having no military importance or merit.
